In 2009 RAIL.ONE Group won the contract for modernizing old rail tunnels in Mainz, Germany. Over a length of 670 metres, the GETRAC® A3 ballastless track system has been installed as a light mass-spring system for the old tunnel at the Main Station. The Mainz South Tunnel has also been equipped over a length of 230 metres with GETRAC® A3 on an asphalt supporting layer. RAIL.ONE delivered a total of approx. 3,000 GETRAC® A3 wide concrete sleepers for the 900 metres of double track in the two tunnels.
After RAIL.ONE’s completion of the Kehretunnel (2001), the Heiligenberg Tunnel (2001-2002), the Esslingerberg Tunnel (2004), the Brandleite Tunnel (2005), and the Schlüchterner Tunnel (2008-2010), upgrading of the old tunnels in Mainz is already the sixth consecutive tunnel system that RAIL.ONE has equipped with the GETRAC® A3 system. For RAIL.ONE, this project is an essential milestone for official designation of the system as standard mode of construction for tunnel modernization in the network of Deutsche Bahn.
